- Title
- Why do only a few TDEs launch relativistic jets?
- Plain
- Only a handful of tidal disruption events have produced jets moving near light speed, for example Swift J1644+57 in 2011. What makes these few different is unknown.
- Precise
- About 1 percent of TDEs launch relativistic jets (Swift J1644+57, Swift J2058+05, Swift J1112-82, AT2022cmc). Determine the deciding parameter: black-hole spin, accumulation of magnetic flux to a magnetically arrested state, stellar magnetic field, or orbit orientation relative to the spin axis.
- Settled by
- General-relativistic MHD simulations of TDE disks with realistic magnetic flux, compared with the jetted fraction and the properties of jetted events.
