Pairing state of superconductivity next to fractional anomalous Hall states

This text mentions work from 2024 on. Those parts were partly written without a live literature search and have not been checked by an editor yet.

In plain words

Twisted $\mathrm{MoTe_2}$ superconducts at fillings next to its fractional quantum anomalous Hall states (zero-field fractional Hall states), and it is unknown whether the pairs break time-reversal symmetry and carry topological edge modes.

Precise statement

A 2025 report (arXiv:2504.06972) found superconductivity in twisted bilayer $\mathrm{MoTe_2}$ near reentrant integer and fractional quantum anomalous Hall insulators, emerging from a spin- and valley-polarized normal state with anomalous Hall hysteresis. Determine the order parameter (chiral intravalley pairing breaking time reversal versus intervalley pairing) and its Bogoliubov Chern number, i.e., the number of chiral Majorana edge modes. An answer gives the pairing symmetry and edge-mode count with direct evidence.

What would settle it

Thermal Hall or edge tunnelling detecting chiral Majorana modes, plus Josephson measurements sensitive to time-reversal breaking.

Status in the literature

Unverified note: it names recent work and was partly written without a live literature search; it awaits a check by an editor.

A 2026 twist-angle study (arXiv:2603.16412) reports valley-degenerate superconductivity at larger angles; pairing symmetry near the fractional states is undetermined as of 2026.
