- Title
- Electron- to muon-neutrino cross-section ratio on argon and oxygen
- Plain
- Far detectors look for electron neutrinos but near detectors mostly measure muon neutrinos, so the experiments rely on theory for the ratio of the two collision rates. Small nuclear effects that depend on the lepton mass could change this ratio by a few percent.
- Precise
- Determine $\sigma(\nu_e)/\sigma(\nu_{\mu})$ and the same for antineutrinos on 40Ar and 16O for $E_{\nu}=0.3\ \text{to}\ 3\ \mathrm{GeV}$ to 2 percent, including lepton-mass effects at low $Q^{2}$, radiative corrections, second-class currents and nuclear-model dependence. The answer is the ratio with an uncertainty budget and a test against a direct measurement.
- Settled by
- A direct $\nu_{e}$ cross-section measurement on argon or water at the percent level, compared with calculations including radiative corrections.
